Telstra launches 1x network with BREW applications

RALEIGH, N.C.-Australian carrier Telstra has launched its cdma2000 1x network with a number of applications developed for Qualcomm’s BREW platform.

The applications include Summus Inc.’s billiards game Nineball, photo-sharing Exego and Ultimate Golf Challenge and they are powered by Summus’ Bluefuel solution. The other applications are ring tones with songs from U.S.-based Faith West Inc.

“We are constantly evaluating new products that will be interesting to our customers, and Summus’ applications, powered by Bluefuel, represent two of the most exciting areas: user-friendly games with high quality graphics and quick and efficient photo-sharing,” said Tim Buckley, director of next-generation wireless services at Telstra.

The ring tones known as Modtones is hitting the international market for the first time on Telstra’s network.
