Wireless service costs dropped 9 cents in the nation’s top 25 markets last month compared with April, according to a report from economic research and consulting firm Econ One Research Inc. The survey found the price of wireless service across four usage models was $37.24 during May, and prices increased in 11 of the top 25 markets, dropped in 10 markets and remained unchanged in four markets.
Los Angeles and San Diego witnessed the largest drops with prices in both markets falling 1.7 percent to an average of $36.58 during May. A handful of markets, including Boston; Denver; Portland, Ore.; and Sacramento, Calif., followed close behind with 1.3-percent drops in average pricing.
Minneapolis had the largest increase in price, rising 1.4 percent compared with April to $37.35, followed by a 1.1-percent increase in Tampa, Fla., to $37.21. A trio of markets, including Dallas, Houston and Chicago, reporting a 0.7-percent increase in average pricing rounded out the top five.
Cincinnati was the most expensive of all of the markets in the survey, with an average monthly price for wireless service of $38.64 during May, which was 0.4 percent higher than the previous month. Sacramento reported the least-expensive average pricing for the month at $34.98.
