DENVER-Verizon Wireless launched its cdma2000 1x-based Express Network service in Colorado, providing customers with access to the wireless data network at average speeds between 40 and 60 kilobits per second and peak speeds of up to 144 kbps.
The carrier said the launch is part of a $150 million investment in its Colorado network during the past 18 months and extends the Express Network service to nearly all of its nationwide network, excluding its recently purchased Price Communications Corp. and Devon Mobile properties.
Verizon Wireless also launched America Online Inc.’s Mobile IM service using the carrier’s text messaging service, allowing AOL members and registered users of AOL Instant Messenger to send instant messages from their desktop computers to Verizon Wireless customers and allowing Verizon Wireless customers to respond to incoming messages from their handsets even of they don’t have an AIM or AOL Screen Name.
In addition, AOL members and AIM users who are also Verizon Wireless customers can forward incoming instant messages to their wireless phones using AOL’s IM Forwarding feature.
Verizon Wireless began offering access to AOL Mail and other AOL content last August and launched full AIM services last September, including access to the AOL Buddy List feature.
