CHICAGO-Motorola and 3 together introduced the Motorola A920 third-generation handset featuring a full-color widescreen display designed to showcase 3’s person-to-person video calling capabilities and video content.
The companies said the Motorola A920 brings enhanced functionality to users of 3’s video mobile network. The device combines the capabilities for a phone, video and still camera, personal digital assistant, MP3 player and gaming device into one product.
The A920 is the third 3G handset to be based on the Symbian OS and is the first Motorola-manufactured handset based on Symbian.
Motorola said the A920 can also double as a separate, handheld gaming console by flipping the phone on its side and using the console-style game controls, including a five-way navigation key to play Java-based games. An expansion memory card is also available for up to 256 extra Megabytes of space for multimedia files.
The full commercial rollout of 3 services, owned by Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa Ltd., in the United Kingdom and Italy is already under way, with further services to follow during the coming months in Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Ireland and Israel.
