MOSCOW-Nortel Networks Ltd. said it has won a contract to provide the wireless network of BaykalWestcom with GSM and GPRS equipment and services across portions of Siberia.
“The network upgrades will position BaykalWestom to introduce text messaging, Internet access, e-mail with attachments, and other wireless data services in the region, and to increase network capacity to accommodate up to 180,000 subscribers,” said Nortel. The project, the dollar amount of which was not disclosed, will begin deployment in September.
