WASHINGTON-The Telecommunications Industry Association applauded Senate Finance Committee passage of legislation that includes a tax break designed to foster broadband investment.
“TIA supports the use of fiscal incentives as a necessary step in addressing the current lack of investment in broadband networks. We believe such incentives serve as a way of bringing advanced technology to people outside of heavily populated areas,” said TIA President Matthew J. Flanigan.
The bill, sponsored by Sens. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.), will repeal a tax law helpful to Motorola Inc. and others and which the World Trade Organization last year said was illegal.
