PARIS-Alcatel Corp. said it signed a $14 million GSM expansion contract with Gansu Mobile Communication Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of China Mobile.
Under the project, which is expected to be completed in June, Alcatel will supply GSM/GPRS/EDGE solutions including new software. The operator will be able to improve network performance reliability and serve up to 2.5 million subscribers through the project, Alcatel said.
Alcatel will also provide 20,000 GSM wireless business phones to help Gansu MCC develop a public phone business in rural areas where fixed lines are not available.
Gansu is located in northwest China in the upper reaches of the Yellow River.
