Senate committee passes bill for technology grants to minority colleges

WASHINGTON-A bill to provide $250 million in federal grants to Historically Black Colleges; tribal colleges; and Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Hispanic-serving institutions for technology upgrades and communications infrastructure was passed unanimously by the Senate Commerce Committee Thursday.

A similar bill passed the Senate during the last Congress 97-0.

The Minority Serving Institutions Digital and Wireless Technology Opportunity Act of 2005 was sponsored by Sen. George Allen (R-Va.).

The bill now goes to the Senate floor.
