Airline adds wireless e-mail service

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates-Passengers flying on Emirates’ A340-500 aircraft can now check and send e-mails from personal laptops while in transit using Tenzing’s in-flight products.

The e-mail services are powered by an onboard Wi-Fi hot spot. Tenzing charges $20 per flight for unlimited use of the service and offers a $10 option that allows uses to only read e-mails. Emirates is offering the service at half off through September.

Tenzing now enables e-mail access on six airlines, including Cathay Pacific, Continental, United, U.S. Airways, Emirates and Iberia. The company also offers seatback short message service on Iberia, Northwest Airlines and Virgin Atlantic and plans to launch instant messaging on Emirates and Iberia later this year. Tenzing also plans to offer in-flight Internet access in mid-2005.
