LONDON-Staellium U.K. Ltd. launched a text messaging product sure to please all those amateur spies out there. The company’s StealthText service allows users to send text messages that “self destruct,” or automatically erase themselves after 40 seconds.
The service is reminiscent of the 1960s/1970s television show “Mission Impossible,” which popularized the phrase “This tape will self-destruct in five seconds.”
StealthText causes messages to be deleted from a recipient’s mobile phone as soon as the recipient has read the message, or about 40 seconds after the message is opened, said Staellium. The company touts the product as useful for business executives sending sensitive information or others concerned about private messages falling into the wrong hands.
After downloading the service, users type in a code prior to sending messages to send a self-erasing text message.
