SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. announced a royalty-bearing deal with wireless infrastructure software maker Vanu Inc.
Under the agreement, Qualcomm said it licensed to Vanu certain patents to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA2000 infrastructure software technology.
“Licensing Vanu demonstrates Qualcomm’s continued commitment to enable a wide variety of competitive suppliers of 3G products worldwide,” said Marvin Blecker, president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing. “This license agreement will enable Vanu to provide portable system software to wireless operators, offering a cost-effective solution for upgrading their existing networks.”
“This license will enable us to complement our ability to simultaneously implement multiple standards on a single network, offering operators a choice of wireless infrastructure platforms,” said John Winn, vice president of sales and marketing at Vanu. “CDMA2000 technology, combined with our software radio technology, allows us to introduce software products that offer an alternative to bulky, expensive infrastructure hardware.”
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Qualcomm controls most major CDMA patents, as well as a number of W-CDMA patents.
