PISCATAWAY, N.J.—Oil company Flying J Inc. announced it will launch a mobile virtual network operator service aimed at the nation’s transportation industry. Flying J said it teamed with Telcordia to launch the MVNO service, which will be commercially available later this month.
“Flying J recognizes the need our professional driver customer has to communicate with family and business associates while on the road and across the nation. We are launching Go Smart service with simple, no commitment, prepaid plans that minimize the barrier to sign up. Our service includes an unlimited nights and weekends option that is important to this market segment,” said Jeff Foote, president of Flying J Communications.
Flying J is based in Ogden, Utah, and had 2005 sales exceeding $11 billion. The oil company employs more than 14,000 people across the United States and Canada through its interstate operations, transportation, refining and supply, exploration and production, as well as its financial services and communications divisions.
Flying J is just the latest company to get into the increasingly crowded MVNO market. Other high-profile MVNOs include Mobile ESPN, Disney Mobile and Virgin Mobile.
