Sprint Nextel hypes NFL content with AirPlay

SAN FRANCISCO-Sprint Nextel Corp. and mobile application developer AirPlay are targeting football fans with an interactive offering that allows users to predict plays during NFL games.

The carrier launched an NFL-licensed, downloadable application, dubbed AirPlay Live, that asks users to predict whether a team will run or pass and which player will get the ball during each play. Subscribers accrue points for correct predictions and can chart results and rankings though a nationwide leaderboard.

Sprint Nextel is offering the service to its Power Vision users for $4 a month; text messaging and data usage rates also apply.

The service complements Sprint’s exclusive, five-year deal with the NFL that allows the carrier to deliver exclusive game highlights, updated scores and live game video. The pact, which was signed last year, is reportedly worth $600 million.
