MTV dance show jumps from wireless to TV

Another video project will move from the phone to the television this weekend as MTV airs the urban hip-hop show “Dances From Tha Hood.”
The program, which offers dance instruction segments and user-generated dance footage, debuted earlier this year through MTV’s mobile distribution channels. The Viacom subsidiary will air a half-hour special edition of the show Sunday night on its flagship station.
Viewers will be able to upload their own dance moves from PCs or mobile phones, and can rate and comment on the clips of others. Tweetie, who emcees the short-form series for wireless, will host the television program.
“Dances From Tha Hood” looks to be the second made-for-mobile U.S. video series to expand beyond the small screen to the TV screen. “Lil’ Bush,” a property of MTV Networks’ Comedy Central, premiered on the television network earlier this week. “Lil’ Bush” first appeared on Amp’d Mobile Inc.’s MVNO service.
