AT&T Mobility refreshes data, messaging plans

AT&T Mobility quietly overhauled its data plans this week, whittling its messaging and data bundles and launching a handful of new offerings, according to research firm Current Analysis Inc.
The carrier dropped more than a half-dozen offerings including PDA Global, Smartphone Connect and BlackBerry/PDA Personal Max plans. The new plans are primarily a way to back-fill the dropped offerings, the research firm said, and include $5 and $15 messaging bundles as well as two Media Net Unlimited plans.
AT&T Mobility also cut the price of its Media Max Unlimited Bundle from $40 to $35 and reduced the data allowance on its $80 Data Connect Plan from unlimited to 5 gigabytes. The operator earlier this week launched three new enterprise plans for iPhone users in an effort to position the popular device as a business tool.
The latest move was a positive step in addressing a lineup that “was too cluttered,” Current Analysis opined this week.
“Overall, AT&T’s new lineup looks promising as the carrier has retained its star plans, included the unlimited messaging and unlimited family messaging plans on the messaging side and the personal and enterprise bundle plans on the data services side,” analyst Deepa Karthikeyan noted in a new report. “AT&T should now attempt to make its pricing structure more competitive, as with voice plans at price parity, data and messaging services will soon determine carrier choices.”
