Vevo makes mobile debut on Apple's iOS

The music video site Vevo has released an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch and is working on apps for the iPad, Android-powered devices and other mobile operating systems.

The app, which is sponsored AT&T Inc. (T), extend’s the premium music video service to mobile and falls in line with the company’s growth plans. The site currently has a catalog of more than 20,000 videos from more than 7,000 artists. Vevo, which is co-owned by Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Abu Dhabi Media Co., routinely gets exclusive videos and premiere rights.

With its new mobile app, Vevo is adding a local element as well. By taking advantage of users’ GPS-equipped smart phones, the app enables users to discover videos that are being watched nearby. And, of course, the app lets users share videos with friends via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail.

Along with the new app launch, Vevo is launching a new original web series called “Ask:Reply!” that features artists answering questions from fans.
