Michael Frankle has been named chief executive officer at Ubidyne. Frankle joins the company from Telefonica O2 in Germany, where he was vice president in charge of access and transport technology planning and engineering for mobile and fixed networks.
Azuki Systems Inc. announced John Clancy has joined the company as president and chief executive officer. Clancy most recently was CEO in residence at Schooner Capital, where he advised clients on growth strategies and identified new technology investment opportunities.
Glu Mobile Inc. appointed Ben T. Smith, IV to its board of directors, which expands the company’s board from seven to eight members. Smith is chairman and co-founder of MerchantCircle, a social network of small business owners. He also co-founded Spoke Software and held executive positions at Borland Software and A.T. Kearney. He also served as senior adviser for strategy and planning to the Secretary of Transportation from 2001 to 2002.
SBA Communications Corp. announced it changed the responsibilities of two of its executive officers. Kurt Bagwell, who currently is the company’s senior vice president and chief operating officer, has been named president of international operations. He will have responsibility for all of the company’s international activities. Mark Ciarfella, who is currently vice president in charge of new builds, has been named senior vice president of operations, where he will oversee the company’s tower operations and services business.
Qualcomm Inc. said it made a $100,000 donation to the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center in Cape Cod on behalf of Dick Lynch, Verizon’s executive vice president and chief technology officer. The donation will help the center preserve and demonstrate the history of maritime wireless communication on Cape Cod. Lynch is the first recipient of Qualcomm’s 25th Anniversary Technology Innovation Partner Award. He was chosen for his leadership in the evolution of mobile wireless.
NewBay said it appointed Steve French vice president of global marketing, where he will be responsible for all of the company’s corporate and product marketing activities, including developing and promoting the company’s brand, and guiding product direction, positioning and communications. French joins the company from Tekelec, where he led the company’s global marketing efforts.
Ashish Sharma has joined FreeWave Technologies as chief marketing officer and general manager of products. Prior to joining the company, Sharma was vice president of marketing at Alvarion.
Bharti Airtel appointed two new executives to lead its network and internal assurance functions in 16 African countries. The company named Tay Kim Lee director of Internal Assurance, where she will be in charge of enhancing the control environment and corporate governance processes. The company also named Eben Albertyn chief technical officer, where he will implement a network enhancement plan to address next-generation technologies. Lee’s experience includes positions with Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Singapore International Group. Albertyn, an engineer, has worked with technical teams on network design in Africa.
Alex Kurganov has joined AdelaVoice as chief technology officer, where he will be responsible for developing the AdelaVoice platform technology, technical strategy, implementation and leading the company’s technology team. Kurganov co-founded Webley Systems in 1997 and has held positions with Motorola, Kodak and Ardis.
