CHATEAUFORT, France-Nortel Networks Ltd. said it has partnered with LG Electronics Co. Ltd. to complete what it describes as the industry’s first live test calls using a commercial handset for High Speed Downlink Packet Access technology.
Both companies described the demonstration as creating “supercharged” broadband services for wireless carriers. The services include high-resolution interactive gaming, multimedia music downloads, DVD-quality film and video, mobile TV, “push to watch” services and access to large e-mail attachments.
The companies used Nortel’s UMTS network infrastructure and LG’s HSDPA handset, slated for commercial availability in late 2005.
