KINGS PARK, N.Y.-The point-to-point microwave market will experience significant growth during the coming years due to emerging PTP application segments, according to a new report by Visant Strategies Inc.
Wireless backhaul will be a key driver for the PTP market, which is expected to grow from $4 billion in 2004 to $7 billion in 2009, said the report. Other PTP microwave market segments that are emerging include enterprise applications, broadcast, public-safety and last mile communications, said the report.
“This is still an industry that has legs,” said Dan Sweeney, author of the report. “While it is less glamorous than the newer point-to-multipoint systems, which have seen great early acclaim due to WiMAX, PTP has stood the test of time and still remains a wise technology choice for many reasons, with the main reason being its relatively cheap cost for the efficiency it allows.”
