SUWON, Korea-Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. jumped into the push-to-do-everything arena with the company’s demonstration of what it calls its PTA (push-to-all) solution. Samsung said the technology combines existing push-to-talk one-to-multi-user voice technology with the one-to-multi-user video-conferencing ability of push to view and multimedia file-sharing function of push to data.
Samsung joins Nokia Corp., LG Electronics Co. Ltd. and Motorola Inc. in expanding the realm of push-to-talk services. Indeed, Nokia, LG and Motorola each separately announced new push-to-view services at the recent 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France. Such advances are notable since PTT services have apparently failed to spark interest among carriers outside of the United States. Nonetheless, equipment makers continue to push PTT services and other derivatives to increase sales.
Samsung said it demonstrated its PTA solution at the company’s telecommunications research and development center in Suwon, Korea. Samsung said it will offer a commercialized PTA handset for CDMA EV-DO networks as well as EDGE, UMTS and Wi-Fi networks.
