Saying that “the right people” are the most important asset of any company, Sprint’s new CEO Marcelo Claure has announced new executive appointments, and the departure of three key individuals. The most visible change may be the departure of CMO Jeff Hallock, who is credited with creating Sprint’s now-defunct “Framily” campaign.
Claure is creating a new position, chief experience officer, to focus on customer experience. Bob Johnson, who has been serving as president of Sprint Retail as well as chief service and IT officer for Sprint, will move into this new position. The carrier has lost hundreds of thousands of prepaid subscribers this year, even as its rivals have seen their subscriber bases grow.
Sprint is also hiring a new chief procurement officer, Frank Boyer, a consultant with an IT procurement background. Claure has told his employees that improving Sprint’s cost structure is a key goal.
Public relations specialist Doug Michelman will take over Sprint’s corporate communications, replacing Bill White. Michelman has worked in communications for AT&T and for Visa, and also has held positions at three of the world’s leading public relations firms.
Sprint Enterprise Solutions President Matt Carter will leave the company. Carter is a Harvard MBA who has held numerous positions at Sprint and is credited with the successful turnaround of Sprint’s Boost Mobile prepaid brand.
The Mobile Minute is sponsored by Juniper Networks.
