RESTON, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. said it will expand its Spanish-based “Nextel. Ya.” advertising campaign to Hispanic communities in Orlando and Tampa, Fla.; Boston; Philadelphia; Fresno and Sacramento, Calif.; and Washington, D.C. The campaign, which was created by Accentmarketing, builds on the carrier’s “Nextel. Done.” campaign.
The expansion will include a new Spanish-language television advertisement, as well as print, outdoor and radio advertisements.
Nextel originally launched the initiative in 2003 targeting Spanish-speaking customers in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, San Diego, New York, Dallas and Houston. It said it plans to provide wireless service to approximately 75 percent of the Hispanic population in the United States by the end of this year. In support of the initiative, Nextel noted that it employs bilingual sales staff in more than one-third of its 700 retail stores as well as a dedicated toll-free Spanish-speaking customer care line. The carrier also said it will feature integrated Spanish sales stations in select retail locations later this year.
In other news, Verizon Wireless announced the launch of its “Mi Cuenta” online account management tool providing account information and payment tools in Spanish. Verizon noted that the service joins its previously available Spanish-language offerings, including directory assistance, voicemail and downloadable Get It Now applications.
