CES 2015: LG demonstrates updated self-healing G Flex 2 smartphone

LOS VEGAS – LG has good news for those who are less than gentle with their cellphones, launching an updated version of its curved, self-healing LG G Flex 2 phone at CES 2015.

The self-healing coating is designed to rid your phone of scratches and scrapes that often happen in your pocket or purse when the phone brushes up against keys or change.

While the phone’s predecessor could heal itself in minutes, LG boasts that the new model can heal itself within 10 seconds of trauma.

The phone also flexes so that it will not break or crack when put under pressure and has a top secret technology in its 5.5-inch screen that LG says is 20% stronger than Gorilla Glass 3.

LG demonstrated the technology using a bronze wire brush that scratches the phone in straight up and down strokes. The results were as advertised. Within seconds, the scratches were gone on the self-healing phone.

Of course there are limits to what the self-healing can do. It is not going to get rid of gouges or very deep cuts, but other companies have put the phone under greater stress and the video shows that it does pretty well.
