The operators’ view on C-RAN – A conversation with Alberto Bonaventura, Technical Consultant, Oi
Oi has been active in trialing C-RAN solutions to study the impact they have in cost and performance, and how the C-RAN topology can co-exist and reinforce small deployments. We talked about these topics with Alberto Boaventura, technical consultant at Oi, as part of our upcoming report “Charting the path to RAN virtualization: C-RAN, fronthaul and HetNets,” which Senza Fili prepared in collaboration with RCR Wireless News.
“The benefit of C-RAN is that it reduces capital expenditures and operating expenditures. But there are also functionality improvements that are feasible only with C-RAN implementation,” Alberto said. “When we are talking about C-RAN, we can have a pool of resources that we can share with different regions. That’s a view of functional virtualization that will increase the elasticity in general.”
