SAN DIEGO-Mobile chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. won a preliminary injunction against the northern California company it accused of infringing on its technology patents.
A U.S. District Court judge said evidence indicated Maxim Integrated Products of Sunnyvale, Calif., had misappropriated a confidential Qualcomm document containing trade secrets for making new mobile-phone chips. Qualcomm originally brought suit against Maxim in 2002; Maxim responded last year with an antitrust suit against the technology giant.
The injunction prohibits Maxim from using Qualcomm’s trade secrets and requires Maxim to publicly disclose the ruling to its customers.
Meanwhile, a federal appeals court ruled in favor of PalmOne Thursday, saying the handheld manufacturer’s wares do not infringe on NCR patents. The ruling marks the third straight defeat for NCR against PalmOne since NCR first filed suit in early 2001.
