TOKYO-Always at the forefront of handset innovation, NTT DoCoMo Inc. released its 2G mova N506iS mobile phone, which the carrier said is the first phone to contain a flat-panel display that also functions as a speaker.
DoCoMo said the phone’s flat-panel speaker emits sound by sending vibrations throughout the entire display panel; most handsets feature speakers on the side of the display. To listen to a voice call, users can place an ear anywhere on the N506iS’s panel.
New Transducers Ltd. in the United Kingdom. developed the phone’s flat-panel speaker technology and NXT SoundVu.
