On this episode of HetNet Happenings, host Sean Kinney learns how a distributed antenna system (DAS) works and gets an overview of the Wi-Fi Innovation Summit.
Kinney, the managing editor for RCR Wireless News, is joined by RCR Editor Joey Jackson, who showcases a new episode of How It Works.
Jackson had the opportunity to interview Morgan Kurk of CommScope. Kurk broke out the whiteboard and gave an in-depth, technical explanation of how a DAS works.

Kinney is also joined by analyst Claus Hetting, the chairman of the Wi-Fi Innovation Summit, which wrapped up in San Francisco, Calif., on Wednesday.
Hetting discussed trends in the Wi-Fi space as well as speculated as to how Wi-Fi technology and application will evolve in the near and short term.
He discussed different ad-based and location-based strategies to monetize Wi-Fi.
“The big challenge right now is the tremendous amount of traffic on Wi-Fi networks,” Hetting said.
“But a lot of it is basically free services. What we’re looking at are solutions for how to monetize it and there’s a lot of options. The jury is still out on what the silver bullet is.”
