Spirent Communications achieved a first this week at Interop Tokyo, giving what the company said was the first demonstration of “two separate 400Gb Ethernet implementations interoperating live in a public forum.”
The demo involved Spirent’s 400Gb Ethernet Test System generating and passing traffic to Huawei’s NE5000E core router port. The traffic was then passed to another port on the router and forwarded to a second Spirent port. The demo was done with support from Spirent’s Japanese partner Toyo.
Spirent said that the demo not only shows the readiness of its equipment for 400GbE, but “showcases the stability and readiness of this technology and will be a driver in the industry’s move toward the standardization of 400GbE.”
The 400G Ethernet system was awarded the Best of Interop Grand Prize.
In addition, Spirent announced this week a new test solution for the emergency communications technologies eCall and ERA-GLONASS, which will soon be required in new vehicles in Europe and Russia, respectively.
“ECall and ERA-GLONASS represent a huge opportunity to save lives, but it also represents a time-sensitive challenge for the automotive industry to have the systems ready,” said Pete Nicholson, GM of Spirent’s automotive division, in a statement. “Our solution will help vehicle makers and IVS vendors verify their systems ahead of the upcoming legal requirements.”
• Rohde & Schwarz has added new tests to its VTC/VTE/VTS video tester family for HDMI 2.0 compliance in consumer electronics that support ultra-high definition, or 4K video, from mobile phones to televisions and media players.
• GL Communications is adding video quality testing to its portfolio. Robert Bichefsky, senior manager at GL, said in a statement that video services generally fall into two categories: broadcasting (or streaming) and video conferencing or video chat. In addition to automated testing for data, including video, to and from smartphones and tablets, GL is launching video conference testing to “determine the real-time performance of video over a given network.”
The test is performed with two Android devices or PCs that have the GL VAC Agent installed, and gives quality of service results for video conferencing along with other metrics.
• In app testing, testing-as-a-service platform provider BlazeMeter launched its Mobile Recorder offering. The feature lets users create performance tests by recording activity on native apps from a mobile device rather than setting up recording software.
It works with iOS and Android phones and tablets. BlazeMeter said that Mobile Recorder intercepts and documents all HTTP and HTTPS traffic from the device to the back-end server and then measures and verifies the response.
