STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson announced several global contracts Thursday at its Fall Capital Markets Day.
Ericsson said it will establish, operate and maintain Brasil Telecom’s GSM core operations in the regions of Rio Grande do Sul, Parana, Santa Catarina and Brasilia, and its radio network in the region of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.
Ericsson did not disclose the value of the five-year managed services contract, which includes GSM infrastructure and daily management of Brasil Telecom’s network.
Ericsson has managed Brasil Telecom’s fixed network since 2002.
“We are very pleased with our managed services partnership with Ericsson, and it has improved Brasil Telecom’s efficiency and is continuously saving operational costs for us,” said Ricardo Sacramento, president of Brasil Telecom GSM.
In a separate announcement, Chinese handset manufacturer Amoi Electronics Co. selected Ericsson Mobile Platforms as its third-generation platform supplier. Under the agreement, Ericsson licensed its W-CDMA platform U100, which supports W-CDMA and GSM/GPRS, to Amoi.
The W-CDMA agreement follows an agreement signed between the two firms in April covering Ericsson’s GSM/GPRS phone platforms.
