Sky Link adds Tver region to Russian CDMA 450 MHz deployment

MOSCOW-Lucent said its CDMA 450 MHz equipment has been deployed in Russia by Sky Link, a telecommunications holding company established to develop a nationwide CDMA 450 MHz network in Russia. Skylink deployed its network in Tver, region located between Moscow and St. Petersburg, and ZAO Tver Cellular Communications will operate the new network..

Lucent provided an end-to-end CDMA 450 MHz solution, including installation support, network integration and other services.

“Sky Link is committed to providing its subscribers with exceptional coverage and value, and the launch of the network in Tver is an important step to deliver high-quality voice and high-speed data services to both Tver residents and the people traveling between St. Petersburg and Moscow,” said Raisa Rozinova, general director of Sky Link.”

By year-end, Sky Link plans to launch commercial CDMA 450 MHz networks in the following cities: Izhevsk, Nizhniy Novgorod, Voronezh, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk, Krasnodar, Vladikavkaz, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, and Saratov. Companies that operated first-generation NMT 450 MHz networks in these regions will launch CDMA 450 MHz networks that provide services under the Sky Link brand name. The federal Sky Link network deployment is expected to be complete before the end of 2008.
