FCC Commissioner Rosenworcel gains committee reconfirmation

Democrat FCC Commissioner Rosenworcel now awaits full Senate vote on new term

Jessica Rosenworcel won unanimous approval from the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee for reappointment to the Federal Communications Commission. The full Senate will now take up the vote on her reconfirmation.

If reconfirmed by the full Senate, Rosenworcel will continue to serve as one of two democrat FCC commissioners under the democrat leadership of FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler. Mignon Clyburn is the other democrat on the commission, with the Republican Party represented by Ajit Pai and Michael O’Rielly.

“Congratulations to Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel on receiving the unanimous Senate Commerce Committee vote reappointing her for a new term at the FCC,” Wheeler said in a statement. “Jessica’s commitment to public service, commitment to tackling important issues and focus on improving Americans’ lives through better access to technology have been assets to the commission. I look forward to her reconfirmation by the full Senate.”

Rosenworcel was initially nominated for the FCC post by President Barak Obama in early 2012, garnering Senate approval alongside Pai. Rosenworcel previously served as senior communications counsel for the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation under the leadership of Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (D-West Virginia).

Rosenworcel has been a strong supporter of Wheeler’s moves as head of the commission, including recent decisions to free up additional spectrum resources for the upcoming 600 MHz spectrum auction and plans to support “5G” services.
