A former Verizon employee has been arrested in Connecticut for allegedly opening fraudulent accounts in victims’ names and selling the fraudulently acquired phones to an accomplice.
Trumbull, Connecticut, police were tipped off to the alleged fraud when a victim contacted them after getting a notification of three phone lines opened in his name. Surveillance video acquired from a Verizon store in a Trumull mall showed former Verizon employee, Rodney Kipping, 28, purchasing the three phones in question.
After being questioned, Kipping allegedly admitted to opening the accounts with an accomplice he met outside the mall. According to police, Kipping confessed to taking cash from the man in exchange for his participation. He was arrested Dec. 9 on charges of larceny, identity theft and forgery in the third degree and criminal impersonation.
