WASHINGTON-The California Public Utilities Commission Thursday denied the mobile-phone industry’s request to reconsider an agency decision in May creating a new bill of rights for telecom consumers.
The CPUC ruling comes on the heels of lawsuits filed by the six nationwide cellular carriers in federal court to overturn the bill of rights, which imposes a slew of new regulations on wireless carriers designed to safeguard wireless consumers in the state.
In August, the CPUC denied industry’s request to stay the bill-of-rights rule. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) criticized the CPUC for passing the bill of rights.
