LONDON-Digital rights management took center stage at the Symbian Expo Tuesday, with two new agreements to help content providers protect their wares.
Mobile security company Discretix and e-commerce provider NDS released a DRM protection suite for mobile content.
Dubbed OMA DRM V2.0, the updated product offers more security and protection for content owners than the original version, the companies said. The suite provides end-to-end DRM protection for music, video, games and multimedia message service.
“Quality content requires quality protection,” said Carmi Bogot, NDS’ vice president of business applications. “We are very excited about our partnership with Discretix…”
Bogot said the suite will provide “the most secure OMA2 DRM solution available on the market today.”
Meanwhile, mobile content provider Handango announced that it will work with embedded DRM and m-commerce company Openbit to pursue DRM solutions using software distribution, embedded licensing and payment technologies.
The companies hope to integrate their billing systems and marketing strategies, enabling on-device commerce worldwide and carrier-integrated billing in 20 countries through nearly 70 mobile network operators.
“License Manager from Openbit is great technology, but more importantly, it’s easy to use for both developers and customers,” said Randy Eisenman, president and chief executive officer of Handango. “We are excited to deliver these benefits and additional revenue to our developer partners and licensees.”
