Sprint is offering a 30-day ‘satisfaction guarantee’ for new lines of service, doubling its previous refund time frame
Sprint is targeting tentative consumers by doubling the time frame in which those trying out the carrier’s service can receive a refund should that experience not be to their liking.
The carrier said starting March 25, it’s providing a 30-day “satisfaction guarantee” to customers that includes an offer to refund device and service charges, which Sprint claims is “the industry’s best consumer satisfaction guarantee.” The carrier had previously offered the industry standard 14-day money back guarantee that only included the price of the device.
The small print indicates the offer if valid for a “limited time” to new customers or existing customers adding a new line of service through a phone, tablet or mobile hot spot. The refund includes device charges related to installment plans, leases, activation fees, early termination fees and taxes, though does require the return of the device. Customers will not be refunded for any premium content purchases, third-party billing activity, international voice roaming not already included in the plan or any associated taxes and surcharges.
Sprint earlier this year said it added 491,000 net connections during the final three months of last year, which was about half the growth posted during the same period in 2014 and the previous quarter. Growth was led by 501,000 net additions from more financially lucrative postpaid connections, which was significantly more than the previous reporting periods, and more importantly included 366,000 postpaid “phone” connections.
The 30-day guarantee is nothing new to Sprint, which back in 2010, offered a similar deal under the “Sprint Free Guarantee” name. That deal included reimbursement for all charges, including purchase price of the device, activation fee and any restocking fee, having the early termination fee waived, a full refund for their service plan’s monthly recurring charges, and all taxes and surcharges waived.
T-Mobile US last year rolled out a similar 30-day guarantee tied to the expansion of its LTE network using its 700 MHz spectrum licenses. The offer also called for the carrier to unlock the customer’s device for use on another carrier, though they would still need to make the device payments to T-Mobile US.
