Verizon top ranked in more than 80% of markets so far tested this year by RootMetrics, with T-Mobile rebounding past Sprint for No. 3 position
Verizon Wireless continues to be the darling of RootMetrics network testing, with the carrier scoring a top ranking in 40 of 52 markets tested so far through the first three months of 2016. The top placings include either an outright victory or share of RootMetrics’ overall top score in the market.
In the race for the runner-up spot, AT&T Mobility maintains a close No. 2 position scoring a top spot or share of the top spot across 24 markets so far tested by RootMetrics. T-Mobile US looks to be rebounding from a poor showing last year, scoring a top spot or share for the top spot in 12 markets, with Sprint currently in a leadership position across just a pair of markets.
RootMetrics typically tests mobile network performance both indoors and outdoors across 125 markets, and across five metrics: network reliability, network speed, data performance, call performance and text performance.
Verizon Wireless came out on top of RootMetrics last complete nationwide ranking, garnering a score of 94.5 across all 125 markets the firm tested for the second half of 2015. AT&T Mobility came in at No. 2 in those tests with a 91.3 score, followed by Sprint with a score of 86 and T-Mobile US with a score of 80.9. Verizon Wireless also topped RootMetrics’ first half of 2015 results, though in those results was No. 2 to AT&T Mobility in text performance.
RootMetrics previously stated it planned to include voice-over-LTE network testing beginning this year.
