According to latest RootMetrics network testing, Verizon continues to outperform rivals AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint through first half of year
Verizon Wireless continues to dominate RootMetrics’ latest network performance ranking, scoring a top spot in 79 of the 104 markets tested so far this year.
RootMetrics typically tests mobile networks across 125 markets for its half-yearly reports. The tests include mobile network performance both indoors and outdoors, and across five metrics: network reliability, network speed, data performance, call performance and text performance.
Verizon Wireless’ top scores so far this year include either outright wins or a share of the top ranking from RootMetrics. Some of the larger markets where Verizon Wireless scored outright victories include San Francisco; Salt Lake City; Portland, Oregon; Miami; Los Angeles; Detroit; and Boston.
AT&T has maintained the No. 2 position in testing so far, scoring a top spot in 45 markets tested, including 11 outright victories. Those markets include Fresno, California; Memphis, Tennessee; New Orleans; Oklahoma City; and Pittsburgh.
T-Mobile US is so far a strong No. 3 in the rankings, scoring a top score in 30 markets, including outright wins in Toledo, Ohio; Spokane, Washington; Lansing, Michigan; Boise, Idaho; and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sprint remains a distant No. 4 with top scores in just five markets to this point, though received an outright win in Las Vegas and shared top spots in Denver, Chicago and Houston.
Verizon Wireless came out on top of RootMetrics’ last complete nationwide ranking, garnering a score of 94.5 across all 125 markets the firm tested for the second half of 2015. AT&T Mobility came in at No. 2 in those tests with a 91.3 score, followed by Sprint with a score of 86 and T-Mobile US with a score of 80.9. Verizon Wireless also topped RootMetrics’ first half of 2015 results, though in those results was No. 2 to AT&T Mobility in text performance.
