SANTA MONICA, Calif.-With the Summer Games in Athens drawing to a close this weekend, Mforma Group Inc. and Verizon Wireless have teamed to launch a mobile track-and-field game.
Track & Field ’04 allows gamers to compete in seven events, including the long jump, high jump, shot put and discus. The game is available to Verizon’s Get it Now customers for $3 a month or $6.50 for unlimited use.
A slew of sports-related games and applications will follow on the heels of the new release, Mforma announced yesterday. In the next several weeks, the mobile entertainment content provider plans to launch four other new sports games, as well as fantasy sports applications and sports news services.
“We have applications that provide play-by-play updates for every live game and a comprehensive news and information product,” said Matt Edelman, Mforma’s senior vice president of publishing. “We also have the best fantasy sports product line tied to the biggest fantasy sports community in the country. Fantasy will be a killer app, introducing a whole new set of consumers to mobile entertainment.”
Verizon also announced the launch of 5-Card Draw Poker, a multiplayer draw poker game for wireless phones. Powered by mobile publisher Sorrent Inc., the game is offered to Get it Now customers for $4 a month.
