WASHINGTON-The Association of Public-safety Communications Officials has released a set of best practices on how to deal with calls from telematics service providers.
“Telematics is a great new technology and is becoming a household word as more and more standard vehicles are becoming equipped with it. It is important that our public-safety answering points are prepared to handle this information and are provided with the tools they need to make emergency response in these cases as seamless as possible. These recommended best practices are intended to do just that,” said APCO President Greg Ballentine.
The best practices contain “clear guidelines for PSAP personnel who handle telematics calls for service,” including escalation procedures, requests for information and a glossary of relevant terms, said APCO.
