Palm’s Treo 755p arrives at Verizon Wireless

The day before Palm Inc. delivers its latest quarterly results-for the fiscal second quarter ending Nov. 30-a “key product” it missed delivering earlier in the holiday spending season has arrived at Verizon Wireless.
The Treo 755p, priced at $300 online, with contract, will also be available in Verizon retail stores Jan. 7. The device refreshes the Treo 700p, which remains on sale at Verizon for $250.
The 755p has done away with its predecessor’s external antenna and added a “soft feel” casing. The new model also offers a high-resolution, color touchscreen and QWERTY keypad. The handset offers 60 megabytes of built-in memory and can use up to 4 GB memory cards.
The business-class device runs the Palm OS and offers a variety of multimedia, messaging and business applications.
Palm has four of Verizon’s nine stock-keeping units (SKUs) in the operator’s smartphone portfolio.
Palm had reportedly planned to release the 755p earlier in the holiday shopping season, and the device’s delay forced the company to lower its financial expectations. Further, due to lower-than-expected revenue and slim profit margins, Palm is in the process of laying off an undisclosed number of its approximately 1,250 employees.
