A San Francisco-based startup is hoping to cater to on-the-go cellphone users who, um, need to go.
Yojo Mobile unveiled MizPee, a wireless Internet-based application that provides information on public bathrooms in 16 U.S. cities. Users can enter addresses or intersections to access directions to nearby toilets, and can rate each site.
MizPee-the service is available for misters, too-also offers details such as whether the bathrooms are handicapped accessible or feature a diaper-changing station. The site launched quietly in July and has had more than 1.4 million hits and served nearly 100,000 unique (and presumably desperate) users, according to Yojo.
Search results include text advertisements from businesses looking to target nearby consumers. MizPee offers a widget for use on sites such as Facebook and MySpace; the company hopes to launch a text-based offering early next year.
Yojo Mobile’s announcement followed last week’s unveiling of SatLav, an SMS-based restroom-finding service in London’s West End. The U.K. offering covers 40 public toilets and costs about 50 cents per use.
