Sprint begins program for university wireless services

Sprint Corp. launched its University Wireless Access plan, which allows schools to offer select Sprint PCS rate plans to faculty, staff and students and collect service-plan fees directly from the users. The company noted the service would allow universities and colleges to recoup revenue lost from traditional landline services.

Under the program, schools would be able to offer most of Sprint PCS’ current wireless services, including its traditional voice calling plans as well as its PCS Vision wireless data services.

“More and more students are coming to college with a wireless phone and not using campus-provided landlines, which in the past have provided a significant source of revenues for schools,” explained Tim Donahue, vice president of enterprise markets for Sprint Business Solutions. “The Sprint University Wireless Access program is a win-win for everyone in a campus community. Faculty, staff and students get affordable access to cutting-edge wireless service from Sprint, and schools can generate revenue while providing a shared, relevant means for their community to communicate.”
