CDMA vendors launch EV-DO Rev. A public safety equipment

Four infrastructure vendors have started offering CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A equipment designed to support public safety and first responder organizations, the CDMA Development Group announced at the opening of the 2007 3G CDMA North America Regional Conference.
Equipment from Airvana Inc., Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and Nortel Networks Ltd. all offer equipment that fits the bill for a new system being deployed by the National Capitals Region in Washington, D.C.
“CDMA2000 Rev. A solutions enable the secure, reliable and robust delivery of a broad range of mobile broadband applications that meet the mission-critical needs of public safety and first responder agencies,” said Perry Laforge, executive director of the CDG. “The CDMA2000 industry will be the first to deliver these vital services in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner using commercially available technology.”
As the group makes its case for the technology, specifically key characteristics that would benefit public safety use, it will be working with organizations like the National Public Safety Telecommunications council to define products and applications that will meet that need.
