DETROIT-Microsoft and Fiat SpA have joined forces to help bring wireless applications to the driver’s seat.
The partners hope to create applications that integrate drivers’ personal wireless devices with onboard equipment via a Bluetooth system. The project eventually could allow motorists to talk to a computer to access the Internet or control the sound system, among various other applications.
The Italian auto maker hopes to include the system in its Lancia and Alfa Romeo brands sold in Europe next year. While financial terms were not disclosed, the deal is reportedly the largest of its kind for Microsoft.
