You know what I’d actually pay to see on the Android app store? An app that combines a USB Host type setup, with Flickr capabilities, but as a single downloadable app. Any of you aspiring Android developers out there reading this, can have this idea free.
This is how it should work in my eyes:
- Can connect any Canon DSLR via a USB cable.
- Lets you browse the photos currently on the memory card in the camera.
- Lets you upload selected photos to Flickr or Picasaweb, giving each one a title, description and tags. It would probably have to resize them automatically to have the longest side be around 1280px, so that it’s still bearable to upload over 3G.
It happens way too much that i’m out and about, taking photos, and want to quickly share something with the web that my phone camera just can’t do justice to. Low-light situations, snapshots while out on photo walks, etc.
Carrying the laptop just isn’t feasible for an every day situation and considering our phones do everything else for us short of making coffee (Ooh.. Android 3.0 feature request?), why can’t this final tech-marriage be made?
Yes there’s the Canon WFT-E3A (grip with built in WiFi) but it costs as much as the darn camera. That’s fine for the pros, but for your average camera-toting Joe amateur, we just need a SIMPLE way to upload photos while on the run. Just resize to 1280px and upload to Flickr via the phone. Done.
I know a majority of people want to get their photos back to their editing PC, up the contrast, add lense flares, etc, and only THEN upload them to Flickr, but I pretty much guarantee that most photographers out there would find this app handy at some point.
I’d happily pay $20 for that app. I’m sure many other photographers would too.
Now go make a million bucks off this idea, just make sure you leave a comment here after you’ve made it so I can send you beer and unicorn meat.
