Verizon Wireless began offering PalmOne Inc.’s Treo 600 smart phone earlier this week to its business users, PalmOne confirmed.
The device will eventually be offered through Verizon’s consumer-user channel as well, said Jimmy Johnson, a PalmOne spokesman.
Johnson declined to disclose specific pricing or product information, saying more details would be included with an announcement timed with Verizon’s consumer launch of the device.
Verizon Wireless did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The phone, available in a CDMA or GSM/GPRS version, includes e-mail and text messaging capabilities, a Palm-powered organizer, Internet access and an integrated digital camera. It is also available in a non-camera version.
In addition to Verizon, the Treo 600 is currently offered through AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Cingular Wireless, Orange, Sprint PCS and T-Mobile.
According to PalmOne’s Web site, the device starts at $450.
