DUBLIN, Ireland-An Irish-led team of investors bought Israeli push-to-talk provider Mobile Tornado. The investors have moved the company’s headquarters to Dublin and plan to open two research and development centers in Ireland.
The Irish software company that is acquiring Mobile Tornado has raised $12.3 million through private investors. John Swingewood, former head o f new media at BskyB, was appointed chairman.
Mobile Tornado said it will deploy a PTT application later this year in Asia. The company said its interoperable solution enables GPRS and CDMA operators to implement PTT on their networks.
In other PTT news, Singapore wireless carrier MobileOne announced a PTT trial using a select group of M1 enterprise customers including Marriott and UPS employees.
“The feedback and experience gained from this trial will assist us in defining the scope and shape of the service should we decide to launch it in the near future,” said Neil Montefiore, M1’s chief executive officer.
The carrier did not name the PTT technology provider.
