SAN DIEGO – Wireless industry trade association CTIA looked to further include input from smaller players in the mobile space announcing the election of nine small carrier representatives and eight supplier representatives to its board of directors.
The new carrier members include: Charlie Townsend, general partner at Aloha Partners II; Ron Smith, president of Bluegrass Cellular; Wirt Yerger, manager at Cavalier Wireless; Pat Riordan, president and CEO of Cellcom; Greg Klimek, VP and GM of Mohave Wireless; Johnie Johnson, president and CEO of Nex-Tech Wireless; Judd Hinkle, COO of Smith Bagley Inc.; Don Horsley, president and CEO of SouthernLINC Wireless; and Ed Evans, founder, CEO and chairman of Stelera Wireless.
The supplier representatives include: Manny Becerra, president of Global Wireless Division at Assurant Solutions; Bret Comolli, chairman at Asurion; Andy Lees, president of Windows Phone Division at Microsoft Corp.; Mike Mulica, CEO of Openwave Systems; Philip Christopher, president and CEO of Personal Communications Devices; John Sims, president of Sybase 365; Jeff Gordon, president and CEO of Syniverse Technologies; and Maurice B. Tosé, president and CEO of TeleCommunication Systems.
The new members will join CTIA’s current 38 member board and serve a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2012.
CTIA has been viewed by many smaller operators as being controlled by its larger carrier members, though the trade association has had executives from smaller operators on its board of directors. CTIA’s board is currently chaired by Sprint Nextel Corp. CEO Dan Hesse.
