REDMOND, Wash.-Fulfilling an agreement announced earlier this year, AT&T Wireless Services Inc. said it has begun offering Wi-Fi service in six train stations along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor between Boston and Baltimore. Stations covered include Boston Route 128 Station, Providence, New York Penn Station, Philadelphia 30th Street Station, Wilmington and Baltimore Penn Station.
AWS noted that with more than 1 million people passing through the stations each weekday, the deployment represents once of the largest single communication upgrades to the public rail system in the region.
“Today’s business professionals are always looking for ways to stay connected while mobile,” said Abhi Ingle, vice president of enterprise data solutions for AWS. “Our new in-building Wi-Fi service at these Amtrak stations, coupled with our wide-area EDGE service, gives commuters the ability to access the information they need while away from their homes or offices.”
The Wi-Fi service is available to both current AWS’ GoPort subscribers at their current rate plan charges or to non-AWS customers for $10 for 24 hours of service from a single location.
