CPS gains $9M to further Matrix adoption

CAMBRIDGE, U.K.-Cambridge Positioning Systems Ltd. (CPS) said it has raised $9 million from existing investors to drive adoption of its Matrix location technology.

The technology provides accuracy within 100 meters and costs less than $1 per handset to deploy, according to CPS. Currently, 10 mobile operators around the world are trying out the software, and the company recently said it will be integrated into offerings from Hewlett-Packard Co., Andrew Corp. and ZTE Corp.

ZTE released results from a China trial at this week’s Mobile Location Services Industry Summit in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The results showed the technology indeed provided sub-100 meter accuracy in indoor and outdoor urban and suburban locations, and time-to-fix was within two seconds, CPS said.

Also at the conference, CPS released Matrix Solo, a new feature for Matrix that allows operators and enterprises to quickly launch their own branded Matrix services.
